Willendorf Venus print
Willendorf Venus print
The original statuette is barely 4.5 inches tall and was discovered in Willendorf, Austria at the beginning of the Twentieth Century.
She was made 25 to 30 thousand years ago and there are many theories about her function/significance, but all I know is that I have been fascinated by her, literally for as long as I can remember.
My drawing is about twice the size of the original and I have tried to capture the texture, curves and tactility of the object.
As always I have drawn her using my pointillist technique, over 70 hours spent applying individual dots to faithfully recreate her beauty, but in a first for me I have painted the background using a matt gouache paint, leaving the brushstrokes visible at the edges - a reminder of how handmade the picture is, just as is the statuette.
